A brainchild of owner and Creative Director Daniela Maggi, XAR Hair & Nails first opened its doors to the public in May 2014. Having spent over twelve years gaining valuable experience, both as an apprentice and as a freelance stylist, Daniela set out to implement a vision she had held all along; that of a tranquil, welcoming, uplifting and conveniently-located hair and nails salon, offering the superlative standards and level of professionalism one would expect from any high-end outfit, devoid of the exorbitant price tag typically associated with such establishments.
XAR is about style: Our dedicated team is regularly and persistently kept abreast of the latest fads, trends and vogues in the world of hair and nail fashion and offers fresh, up-to-date styles that are easily managed between visits and tailor-made to suit each client’s needs. We take pride in our distinct salon design too. While XAR offers the sort of modern, pragmatic setting expected of any salon, it is also finished with delicate touches of progressive, avant-garde schemes and furnishings, giving the salon its charm and our patrons, a warranted sense of style.
XAR is about convenience: Modern-day life necessitates an efficient, timely service and we do appreciate today’s realities. While we are happy to accommodate passers-by looking to change their guise on a whim, we prioritise pre-bookers and vow to honour all appointments. There’s no waiting around for long-stretches while late-comers are obliged; no disrupting of your day’s plan while you linger in the salon unexpectedly. Our Ibragg location offers centrality while also ensuring accessibility, being reachable from, but outside of the island’s commotion-hubs. And on Thursdays, XAR is open till 9pm for your convenience, so there’s no need to wait for the weekend to treat yourself.

While delivering on our direct services is a central tenet of our philosophy, we also offer our clients an environment conducive to rest and relaxation. Cuts & Blow-Dries: At XAR, we take the time to discuss your hair and become accustomed to your tastes. We value our client consultations, as we believe they are the key to successful cutting and styling and in turn, crucial to our clients’ satisfaction. We also strive to create manageable cuts and styles that clients can maintain for as long as possible. So whether you’re chasing an intricate trend or seeking a classic mien, XAR’s team will create something to suite you, regardless of your age or style.
Colour: We take great pride in our collective technical expertise and skills pertaining to hair colouring. Our team is well trained and experienced in colour-application and our premium colour products provide a full spectrum of colour tones and shades. XAR will exceed your expectations, regardless of your colour needs.
Extensions: One of our specialities; at XAR, we offer a full range of clip-on, micro ring and Weft hair extensions to suit just about anyone. Come in for a one-to-one consultation to determine what’s best for you. Whether it’s length or volume you seek to add, our team will ensure you get the correct texture, colour and general match.
Gents: At XAR, we understand that the modern man may be just as fashion-sensitive and trend-driven as any woman. But we also understand that trend chasing is not all men’s cup of tea. So whether you’re a stylish lad looking to keep up with the trends or a straight-up gent after a classic cut, our dedicated, down-to-earth team will be sure to accommodate you, be it by clipper or a pair of scissors.
Weddings: We also offer our services to brides - along with their full bridal party - on their big day, and because we can appreciate the stresses brought about by such an important occasion, we can also arrange to have XAR come to you. Note that we advise you to visit XAR for a trial before the big day. This will enable us to try out different styles and determine what suits you best.
Up styles: Invited to a wedding, black tie event, gala, or any other formal function? Attending an important job interview or business meeting? Fancy going for a formal look that will suit your features and personality? We offer an array of up styles to suit all types. XAR’s team will work with you to create a bespoke style, whether you’re opting for grace, flair or professionalism. But up styles need not necessarily be formal. We also offer manageable, casual, loose and natural up styles for women on the go.
Treatments: The Brazilian (Keratin) Treatment, also known as the permanent blow-dry, has taken Europe by storm, and with a climate as humid as ours, it’s not surprising that the craze has swept Malta too. The Brazilian Treatment, unlike traditional Japanese ones, will not harm your hair. Keratin, the main ingredient used in this treatment, is a natural substance found in human hair and will repair damage, smoothen and calm your hair for up to 4 months. But the Brazilian Treatment is not the only one available at XAR. We offer Botox Treatments, Olaplex Treatments, Repair Treatments, and Instant Treatments. Our team will advise you as to the right remedy for you, whether you’re looking for volume, moisture or anything else your hair may require.
Nails: At XAR, we’re not exclusively about hair. We offer a full range of nail services too, whether for your hands or feet. We use premium brands (Orly) to apply gel polish, use the Sopolish Protect and Peel system, offer gel and acrylic infills and will even extend your nails using both gel and acrylics. We also offer custom, free-hand designs and make use of products containing Vitamins A, E and B5 to promote and protect healthy nails in terms of both look and feel.
Beauty: We also offer an assortment of beauty services to complement your hair and nails, and complete your look for any occasion. XAR offers eyebrow threading and tinting, eyelash curling, make-up and more. Whatever the occasion, XAR has you covered.
At XAR, we believe that a premium service cannot be delivered without first-rate products, which is why we use nothing but the best products on the market to wash, colour and treat every client’s hair. We also stock and sell professional hair products by L’Oreal, Angel, Milkshake, True Keratin and Olaplex. Hair tools and accessories are also available for sale at XAR, from ceramic irons, to hair clippers, hair clips, hair brushes and more. And for the fashionistas among our clientele, XAR also stocks a selection of chic, stylish women’s jewellery.
